Cinematography: Learner Response
1) Type up your feedback/comments from your teacher:
- Excellent soundtrack and build up of tension - nice to get a different feel and effect to the same shots as other productions.
- A few labels incorrect or missing (e.g. some camera movement not labelled) and late "big close up" is perhaps more of a simple close-up
- I like what you tried with the ending but perhaps if needed something more (a shot? sound?:) to really give the audience a pay-off.
2) Type up your feedback from fellow students.
- Some text and naming was wrong, Music didn't build up tension, framing over the shoulder shots and other, good range of shots to tell narrative, nice sound effect.
3) Now reflect on your work and write your own summary of the comments and feedback you have received. Write three WWWs and three EBIs.
WWW:
- Good camera movements to tell narrative
- Nice array of shots
- Good way of utilizing editing to make it clear for the audience
EBI:
- Some text and naming was wrong
- Failed to finish the tension
- Could use more shots to make the narrative more clear
4) Learner response: think about what you learned about cinematography making the video and also watching others. What will you do differently when you start the coursework in the summer? What tips or tricks have you learned from others that you can use next time? Are there any specific aspects of camerawork that you need to revise or practice?
I really want to add more information on each shot for the audience to analyse. Narrative is really important to me and I feel like it could be improve on some areas. For example, I want to practice and learn how to build and use tension to my advantage so I can hook the audience. I want to make my 5 minutes shots to feel like 30 seconds. I also want more range of different shots as well. I believe I lack in mid to closeup shots, which could be improved on over time. I have learned some few tips from watching others. For example in Jobanpreet video I got some few tips and pointers on how to make more of a calm shots and camera movement.
